Apple’s Foldable iPhone Is Here. Is It Worth $1,999?

The folding iPhone has moved from rumor to a real buying decision. Apple’s iPhone Duo launched on October 23, bringing a phone that opens into a much larger screen. Apple’s U.S. store lists the base 256GB model at $1,999. That is a serious premium, so we’d focus on what the extra space does for us every day.

What makes iPhone Duo different?

The Duo pairs a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner display. Keep it closed for quick tasks, then open it when reading, watching or working benefits from more room. Apple’s A20 Pro chip powers the device, which comes in star white and night sky. Those are announced specifications; they do not substitute for independent testing.

The more interesting question is how we use the space. Apple’s product page shows Split View, letting two apps share the inner screen, and positions that support hands-free viewing. That can be useful when we want a reference open beside another task, or want to prop up a video without holding the phone.

The advantages—and the tradeoffs

Why we’d consider it: a larger workspace without carrying a separate tablet, two-app multitasking, and flexible viewing positions. Those are practical reasons to consider the design if they match how we actually use a phone.

What gives us pause: the price. The U.S. Apple store lists 512GB at $2,199, 1TB at $2,599 and 2TB at $3,199. Before spending that much, we’d try the opening motion, closed shape and favorite apps in person. A bigger display only earns its keep when we use it.

Apple says the camera system includes a 48MP main camera and a 48MP Ultra Wide camera. Its “optical-quality 2x” language describes the main camera’s capability; we would not mistake that for a separate dedicated telephoto camera.

Where can we buy the foldable iPhone?

Apple confirms sales through its stores, website and app. A launch date is not a promise of immediate delivery. Check the current configuration, pickup options and delivery estimate before paying. For another retailer, verify the exact phone model, seller, carrier conditions and return terms on that retailer’s own listing.

Our take

We’d put iPhone Duo on the shortlist for someone who regularly needs a larger workspace and wants to keep one device in a pocket. If most of our time is spent on messages, calls and quick scrolling, we’d need a stronger reason to spend $1,999. The fold is the headline; everyday usefulness should decide the purchase.
